Words about Fun in the Sun from one of our campers who then became a counselor:
Comments on Fun in the Sun
Too often in summer camps, scheduled activities and pre-planned fun inhibits the very magic that summer camps hopes to inspire in children. Fun in the Sun not only encourages freedom for fun at Plymouth Swim Club, but also encourages freedom for imagination.
As both a camper and counselor, I’ve been at Fun in the Sun since 1994, only taking two years off to life guard at two other summer camps in the area. The jovial feelings that are invoked by the changing of the seasons from spring to summer always remind me of my imagination and child like innocence that I enjoyed during so many years at camp. As a life guard at these other summer camps, I saw structure and time sensitive activities stifle the natural innocence of summer. Fun in the Sun surrounds it’s campers with a diverse set of kids and puts them in an environment where the imagination can run wild.
I remember as a camper at Fun in the Sun spending endless hours in the pool living as Bulbasor (my favorite Pokemon at the time) as I explored the Pokemon world with Pikachu and Charmander. I wasn’t Bulbasor for just 50 minutes until my counselor told me it was time to do arts and crafts, I was Bulbasor until I decided that I wanted to be Volpix, a Pokeman that can harness the element of fire.
Fun in the Sun fosters the delightful and playful imagination that summer camp should be all about. It encourages parents to ask their child not “What did you do at camp today?” but rather, “How did Bulbasor fair against Team Rocket today?”

And we all had “Fun in the Sun”
I was walking around the girl’s locker room on Thursday afternoon and saw some sad campers & counselors. I heard their conversations but stayed in the background: “I’m so bummed” “I Love Summer”… and so on…..and then one of the counselors (our dear Anna) said: “Don’t think about it being over…think of all the good things that happened and how much fun you had”.
That stayed with me because I loved her perspective about something “good”, “happy”, “fun”. It’s a great way to look at our life’s funnest moments. Campers & counselors, Thank you for all those “fun” moments !
Your wonderful children will be returning to school this week and the school year routine will begin.
We wanted to let you know that…We have enjoyed your children! We loved playing with them. We loved listening to their stories. We had so much fun….They are totally awesome!!!
Your children have done lots of swimming, in fact lots and lots of swimming. We had such wonderful weather all summer that we spent it at the pool mostly four days a week.
On trip days the children have golfed (miniature), bowled, roller skated, Happy Tymed, climbed, saw a movie or two, bounced and climbed some more, got splashed with a big bucket full of water, went down water slides, sat on a tube, tied dyed, learned how to spend money in the snack bar….
They did sports… soccer, basketball, kickball, capture the flag…..etc, etc, etc.
But most of all they have played. Then they played more, and then they played even more. They met lots of new friends, connected with old friends, and played some more. They used their imagination and creativity, played games indoors and out, invented their own games, spent LOTS of time inside and outside in the mornings and making full use of the great 11 acres at the swim club in the afternoons.

@Fun in the Sun 2011
We wish you all a happy school year!
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be part of your child’s summer fun.

Final week – 2010
Camp has come to an end for this summer…but we hope to see you next summer.
We have enjoyed the children tremendously!
Thank you to the 2010 families for giving us the opportunity to be part of your children’s summer fun.
The children have done lots and lots of swimming. They have bowled, roller skated, Happy Tymed, climbed, went on tubes down the banana slide, slid on the body slide, saw a movie or two, visited the Phillie’s stadium, learned how to spend money in the snack bar (which helps with their math skills)…. etc, etc, etc.
But most of all they have played. Then they played more, and then they played even more. They met lots of new friends, connected with old friends, and played some more.
They used their imagination and creativity, played games indoors and out, invented their own games, spent LOTS of time inside and outside in the mornings and making full use of the great 11 acres of the swim club in the afternoons.
Our aim was to provide a casual, carefree setting that would allow your child to socially interact with other children and to be free to just be.
We wish you all a happy school year!
See you next summer!
Love,
